The Fishing Challenge

Updated Sunday January 14, 2018 by Stanley Park.

The Club hosted events to give everyone in the community the opportunity to enjoy the experience of fishing: the Fishing Challenge and the Trout Pond.

Over the decade, this turned into an annual program, getting bigger (and more demanding) each year. The physically challenged were treated to a fishing outing at a well-stocked pond, picnic lunch and some souvenirs. For several years at a separate session, (for a small fee) everyone had the opportunity to catch a fish at the Trout Pond. Optimist Club members act as hosts & fishing guides and ensure everyone has a really, really good time!

For 2008, the Fishing Challenge took place on Saturday AM, September 6th.  It was again held at the pond of Dave & Deb Mallard, St. Jacobs. (Refer to map)
Check out the photos in the Photo Album section for some of the catches and such from Challenges from 2001 through 2007.  The even in 2007 was enjoyed by 29 guests who were treated to the catch & release excitement and were served hot dogs, chips and beverages by Optimist Club members.
Unfortunately the Club's limited manpower resources could not continue doing justice to this program so focus shifted to the School Fishing Program.
